Malungay or moringa is thought to be a miracle tree as all parts — roots, bark, leaves, flowers and seed pods — can be used in medicine. As a result, it’s a common backyard tree in the Philippines, with the flowers, young leaves and young pods eaten as a healthy vegetable.
Decoctions of malungay are used to decrease blood pressure, relieve headaches and migraines, and reduce inflammatory and arthritic pains. Young leaves are a rich source of calcium, iron, phosphorus and vitamins A, B and C — all beneficial to general wellbeing.
